Vereecken André

André Vereecken was a Belgian artist, born in Sint-Pauwels in 1932 and passed away in Beveren in 2017. He was a painter, draftsman, gouache artist, and graphic artist. He trained at the Academy in Sint-Niklaas under the guidance of G. Fonteyn and R. Malfliet. Vereecken created a fantastical world full of pictorial improvisations where reality and imagination intertwine in a playful and spontaneous manner. Using bright colors, he painted whimsical, bizarre forms and distortions. The press noted, "A.V. enters realms explored by Ensor, Van Den Berghe, Miró, Klee, and Picasso. He intertwines tokens, symbols, and peculiar beings." He is mentioned in BAS II and Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists. (Piron, BT)
