Van Hoof Jos

Jos Van Hoof was a Belgian artist, born in Borgerhout in 1889 and died in Schilde in 1937. He was a painter and graphic artist. He was destined to become an architect in his father's construction company, but after a few months at the Academy in Antwerp he switched to painting. He later qualified in graphics at the Academy in Mechelen. Around 1930 he started his own art printing company in Ploeghalle. He worked in a poetic-realist design and his oeuvre includes a large number of paintings, including some striking portraits, copper engravings, etchings and drypoint works. As a graphic artist he mainly created cityscapes, Kempen landscapes and interiors. (Piron)
