Carcan René
René Carcan was a Belgian artist born in Sint-Joost-ten-Node in 1925 and died in Etterbeek in 1993. He was a painter, graphic artist, sculptor and jewelry designer. First followed lessons at the Academy in Sint-Joost-ten-Node, further training at the Academy in Brussels, conducted by J. Maes and L. Devos (1941-1946). He was also apprenticed to the sculptor G. Jacobs for seven years. During that period he designed small bronze and silver sculptures. Graduated in graphic techniques at the Frielander studio in Paris (1960-1965). From the press: "His first etchings are in line with the style of Young Belgian Painting. Later he fell under the spell of abstract art, without ever losing sight of reality. He did not stop looking for a more sophisticated technique, which resulted in many, sometimes very interesting experiments. At the end of the sixties he created his most personal works: colorful, lyrical landscapes, inspired by the surroundings of Brussels, including Huldenberg." From 1965 headed a graphics studio in Brussels. Co-founder of the Cap d´Encre Group. Mentioned in BAS I, II and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (PIRON)
