Ondrušová-Wünschová Jana

Jana Ondrušová-Wünschová is a Czech artist, born on July 18, 1940, in Brno/Czech Republic. She is a painter and graphic artist. She studied at the Graphic High School in Brno, graduating in 1959. Her professional development was complicated by the political circumstances of the time. As a devout Christian, she was denied access to higher education for political reasons. Therefore, she chose to take private consultations with Jan Želibský, a professor at the VŠVU in Bratislava.

She began her career as an art therapist at the psychiatric clinic in Brno-Bohunice, where she could also pursue her interest in psychiatry. During her work at the clinic, she became aware of the many internal conflicts of human beings, which influenced her human and professional stance. After 1989, she started teaching at the foundry industry school in Brno, specializing in engraving and metal casting, and later at a private art gymnasium. Since the late 1970s, she has dedicated herself entirely to her own artistic work. Her creative development mainly focuses on drawing, pastel painting, and graphics. Initially, she worked with chalk lithography, but later she transitioned to the more demanding technique of scratch lithography, a technique based on the contrast of a black or colored print on white or lightly tinted paper. Her complex prints are produced by Jiří Závodník.

Since 1981, she has been creating ex libris alongside free graphic sheets. She has participated in dozens of exhibitions both domestically and internationally. In 1990, she won the jury prize at international exhibitions in Poland and Japan, and she regularly participates in exhibitions in Sint-Niklaas, where her work is always selected for the catalog. (BT)
