Brocas Maurice

Maurice Brocas (De Brocas De Lanauze, Maurice) was a Belgian artist who was born in Brussels in 1892 and who died in Uccle in 1948. He was a painter and woodcarver. Was married to etcher Suzanne Cocq. Largely self-taught, but did attend classes at the Academy in Brussels in 1916-1917. Realized landscapes, cityscapes, still lifes. He is especially famous for his numerous refined woodcuts. Was a woodcarving teacher at the Higher Institute in Antwerp (1938-1948). Founding member of La gravure originale Belge. Work in the Print Room in Brussels, among others. Mentioned in the Biography Nationale of the Royal Academy of Belgium, volume XXXV. Mentioned in BAS I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (piron)
