Mariman Guido

Mariman Guido is a Belgian artist, born in Wilrijk in 1948. He is a printmaker, draughtsman, watercolourist and designer of ex libris bookplates. He studied drawing, painting and graphic design at the Academy in Antwerp, under the guidance of G.C. De Bruyne and R. De Coninck (1962–1967), then printmaking at the National Higher Institute in Antwerp under the supervision of Jos Hendrickx and Marc Severin (1967–1972). He debuted as a painter, but soon devoted himself mainly to printmaking, working with wood and burin engravings, etchings and lithographs. He is a figurative symbolist. He also worked as a designer of ex libris and occasional graphic art. From the press: “His starting point lies clearly in themes that are both traditional and universal: the human figure, water, air, earth, life.” (1979) He illustrated commemorative books for the city of Antwerp and for the provinces of Antwerp and East Flanders. He was awarded the Frans Raymakers Prize from the Club der XII in 1972, the Leo Winkeler Prize at the International Ex Libris Competition in 1997, and the Gemeentekrediet Prize at the Ex Libris Competition in 1977. He became a teacher at the Academies in Sint-Niklaas and Brasschaat. Works by Guido Mariman are part of the collections of the Belgian State and the print rooms in Brussels and Antwerp. He lives and works in Ekeren. He is listed in BAS I and Twee eeuwen signaturen van Belgische kunstenaars. (Piron)
