Calus Lucien (SuLac)

Lucien Calus, or SuLac, is a Belgian artist who was born in Bruges in 1939. He is a painter and decorative artist. Training in monumental decorative arts at Sint-Lucas in Ghent, where he became a laureate in 1963. Also graduated in advertising and illustrative drawing from the Famous Artists School. His works can be classified under different main themes, namely the female nude (torsos), the environment, past glory (brickworks, coal mines), cityscapes (Mechelen, Antwerp), current events, landscapes and traffic accidents. From the press about this latest series: "Art with a message. This is how L.C. his paintings of shredded car wrecks or folded bicycles" and "In an idiosyncratic yet artistically responsible way, L.C. photos from the Monday papers and convert them into personal impressions". The artist: "The aim of my project "art and traffic" is to reach as many people as possible. I hope that my paintings add another dimension to the attempts to encourage our fellow humans to think more thoroughly about their attitude in traffic."
