Logelain Henri

Henri Logelain was a Belgian artist, born in Ixelles in 1889 and died in Ixelles in 1968. He was a painter, draftsman, watercolorist and graphic artist. He was educated at the Academy in Brussels and at the School of Decorative Arts in Ixelles. He worked in the Circle L'Effort, where Oleffe became his counselor and friend. He realized portraits, figures, nudes, landscapes, marines, cityscapes, interiors and still lifes. He evolved into a colorful Fauvist style and returned to a more realistic design in the 1920s, using a more muted color palette. In 1938 he stayed in the Belgian Congo. He was a teacher at the Academy in Leuven and at the School of Arts and Crafts in Vilvoorde. His work can be found in the Print Room in Brussels and in the Museums in Brussels, Ghent, Ixelles, Charleroi, Kortrijk, Namur and Ostend. Henri Logelain is listed in BAS I and Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists. (Piron)
