Mortiaux Henri
Henri Mortiaux was a Belgian artist, born in Saint-Gilles in 1890 and died in Villers-la-Ville in 1965. He was a graphic artist and draftsman. He was educated at the Academy in Brussels under the guidance of Fabry, Van Strydonck, Delville, Montald and A. Danse, who initiated him into etching techniques (1910-1914 and 1918-1919). He mastered the etching, drypoint and aquatint techniques. He found his inspiration mainly in the center of Brussels, of which he engraved countless old corners and picturesque faces. He also occasionally etched figures, nudes and portraits. We can find his work in the Print Room in Brussels, among other places. Henri Mortiaux is listed in BAS I and Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists. (piron)
