Bource Henri (-Jacques)

Henri (-Jacques) Bource was a Belgian artist born in Antwerp in 1826 and died there in 1899. He was a painter. Education at the Academy in Antwerp under the direction of E. Dujardin, J. Dyckmans and G. Wappers, later a student of A. Scheffer in Paris. Made numerous trips to the Netherlands, France, England, Scotland, Switzerland, Italy and Norway. Debuted with portraits at the Salon of 1849 and occasionally painted historical scenes. Found his true calling in genrepainting, with mainly idealized scenes from fishing life. His genre scenes sometimes developed into monumental compositions. Work a.o. in the Museums in Antwerp, Brussels, Liège, Ghent.
