Michiels Guillaume

Guillaume Michiels was a Belgian artist born in Sint-Andries/Bruges in 1909 and died in Bruges in 1997. He was a painter, draftsman, etcher, author and folklorist. He studied at the Academy in Bruges, at the Academy in Ghent and at the Academy in Brussels. His favorite subjects were Bruges interior views, alleys, portraits, folk figures, monuments and still lifes. From 1946 to 1974 he was a teacher at the Academy in Bruges. He was the founder and first curator of the Museum of Folklore in Bruges. He was the author of "De Brugse School" (1990), biographical work on Bruges' painters from the 19th and 20th centuries.
