Teugels Georges

Georges Teugels was a Belgian artist born in Sint-Gillis/Dendermonde in 1937 and died in Aalst in 2007. He was a painter, watercolorist and draftsman. He was educated at the Drawing Academy in Paris (1953-1955) and made his debut in 1956 with oil painting and watercolor. Afterwards he followed painting and drawing techniques at the Academy in Brussels. He found his inspiration mainly in Flemish rural rural life and in this way he realized portraits, farmer's heads and figures, folk types, Brabant draft horses, horse heads, courtyards of old farmsteads, sheep stables, farm scenes with chickens, field bouquets, flower arrangements, still lifes and genre scenes. He had a realistic vision with a romantic aura. He used the chiaroscuro techniques in a contemporary way. From the press: “G.T. experienced the farming trade as an inexhaustible source of inspiration. His work shows a striking unity, it betrays a poetic soul. It is a restrained and understated art, subtle in color, pithy yet lyrical work”, and 'Everything is bathed in a wonderful light, sometimes bright, sometimes diffuse, spiced with reds, browns and golden yellows, sometimes fading to a chiaroscuro. to get really quiet.” He is mentioned in Artists and Galleries 1996 and 1997, in its fourth (2000) and fifth edition (2004), in BAS II and Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists.
