Van Giel Frans
Frans Van Giel was a Belgian artist who was born in Oostmalle in 1892 and died in Geel in 1975. He was a painter and followed a decorator training at the Academy in Antwerp. Found inspiration from around 1920 in the Kalmthoutse heide and dunes. Settled in Wechelderzande in 1932. In a silent lyric translation he tried to present his own region and hearth to the viewer as a kind of symbol. In addition to landscapes, he also painted Kempen genre scenes, village views, peasant interiors, figures, portraits. Debuted impressionist but evolved to a stricter design. Mentioned in BAS I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. Source: Piron.
