Coddron Oscar

Oscar Coddron was a Belgian artist, born in Ghent in 1881 and died in Ghent in 1960. He was a painter and graphic artist. He received his training at the Academy in Ghent, under the guidance of J. Delvin. He was second for the Prix de Rome in 1907. He traveled to France and Italy, settling in Sint-Martens-Latem in 1918. He created (Leie) landscapes, which testify to a major influence of luminism. He also painted rural scenes, marines, figures and nudes. Afterwards his design became more powerful and expressive. From the press: “Just like Smits and Servaes, O.C. showed a preference for rural subjects and for the theme of rural life. We know of a number of canvases with large figures in the foreground in a decorum that is brushed without concern for pictorial fussiness or accumulation of color, but of the explicitly symbolic genre.” (G.
