Buyens André Emile

André Emile Buyens was a Belgian painter, born in Bruges in 1920 and died in Ghent in 1996. He was educated at the Academy in Ghent under the supervision of Jos Verdegem, among others. During the Second World War he stayed in England, where he painted and drew, and in 1946 in the South of France, where he worked under the guidance of Utrillo. He realized forest and forest views, (mountain) landscapes and flower arrangements. He was a professional enameller, a craft that he had taken over from his father. In 1952 he was laureate of the Provincial Prize of East Flanders. He is listed in the Lexicon of West Flemish visual artists v and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (piron)
