AKAROVA

AKAROVA, the pseudonym of Marguerite Acarin, was a Belgian artist who was born in Sint-Joost-ten-Node in 1904 and who died in Ixelles in 1999. She was a painter, sculptor, dancer, and poet. Debuted as a dancer and singer. Self-taught in the visual arts. Married Marcel-Louis Baugniet in 1923, but this marriage only lasted five years. Finally, she left the world of spectacle and dance in 1957 to devote himself full-time to painting and sculpture. As a painter, she has realized portraits, religious subjects, abstract compositions, and designs for theater costumes and sets. From the press in 1997: 'Akarova stands on the border of the abstract. She does not want to get rid of the tangible, but in her works certain properties are still abstracted. Yet she bases herself on a visible reality.' As a sculptor, she designed, among other things, portraits and busts in powerful, somewhat stylized design.  She also designed monumental work, among others for the cities of Brussels, Mons, Tienen. Was a member of the Fédération Féminine Artistique Belge. Work in the Museum in Ixelles, among others. Mentioned in BAS II and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (Piron)
