Emile Verpilleux
Emile Antoine Verpilleux (1888-1964) was a British-born artist of Belgian and Scottish descent whose virtuosity in a number of artistic mediums - including landscape painting, portraiture, illustrations, and, perhaps most notably, colored woodcut printmaking - earned him considerable recognition and acclamation in the first half of the twentieth century. He holds the distinction of being the first artist to have had a colored woodcut print hung in London’s Royal Academy of Arts.
