Maurice Langaskens born in Ghent in 1884 and who died in Brussels in 1946 was a well-known Belgian painter and graphic designer, who studied at the famous Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, followed by lessons from Constant Montald in Brussels. The influence of Montald and Puvis de Chavannes are well recognizable in the work of Langaskens. During the first World War, Langaskens was imprisoned in Göttingen en Münsterlager where he produced numerous paintings and drawings of the situation in the camps.
