Albert Jozef Claeys
Albert Jozef Claeys was a Belgian painter born in 1889 in Eke and who died in 1967 in Deinze. He followed his training at Sint-Lucas and at the Academy in Ghent under the supervision of J Delvin, Metdepenninck and G. Minne. Called up in 1916, he drew hundreds of portraits of fallen soldiers at the front. He settled in Mullem in 1923, where he mainly painted alleys, churches, interiors and portraits. From 1932 he moved into a house in Deurle on the Leie region that he would sing in a masterly way. He also occasionally painted still lifes. (PIRON)
